FOOTBALL
New
York Giants The city of New York was introduced
to professional football on the same day that the city was
introduced to the New York Giants. It was a clear, sunny
October afternoon in 1925 when the Giants took the field
to play against the Frankford Yellow Jackets. The Giants
lost their home debut by the score of 14-0, but more importantly,
the New York Giants and professional football had arrived.

York Jets The Jets was founded in 1960 as a
charter member of the American Football League and joined
the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL Merger.Weeb Ewbank Don Maynard
Joe Namath John Riggins and Ronnie Lott are the Jets members
in the Hall of Fame.The Jets retired numbers include #12
Joe Namath, #13 Don Maynard and #73 Joe Klecko.
BASKETBALL
New
York Knicks The New York Knickerbockers, known
as the Knicks, are one of only two charter members of the
National Basketball Association still in their original
cities (the other being the Boston Celtics). The Knicks
were among the league's elite in three different eras, each
separated by about two decades. In the early 1950s New York
played for the NBA title three times. The early 1970s represented
the team's golden age, when the Knicks won two NBA championships
with a roster studded with such Hall of Fame talent as Willis
Reed, Walt Frazier, Dave DeBusschere, Earl Monroe, and Bill
Bradley. Then, in the 1990s, the Knicks again became dominant
behind center Patrick Ewing, advancing to the NBA Finals
in 1994 and 1999.
HOCKEY

York Islanders The New York Islanders have
5 Stanley Cup apperances including (4 wins, 1 loss: 1980
(won), 1981 (won), 1982 (won), 1983 (won), 1984 (lost)).
Hall of famers include Mike Bossy, Denis Potvin, Billy Smith,
Bryan Trottier, Clark Gillies,and Pat LaFontaine

COLLEGE SPORTS
Syracuse
The Basketball program at Syracuse has shown excellence
under Jim Boeheim owning a 707-243 overall record (as of
Nov. 28, 2005), good for a .745 winning percentage, Jim
Boeheim ranks fifth among active Division I coaches in winning
percentage and tied for sixth in victories.His 27 20-win
campaigns place him in a second-place tie on the all-time
Division I list, and he is also eighth in Division I NCAA
Tournament wins with 40. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial
Basketball Hall of Fame in September 2005, Boeheim is the
winningest coach in Big East Conference history.
The football program has had stars like Donovan
McNabb who played his ginal game in the Carrier Dome against
the Miami Hurricanes in 1998. McNabb passed for two touchdowns
and ran for three more as Syracuse claimed its third consecutive
BIG EAST Championship with a 66-13 victory.

THEATRE
New York City's
Theater District is contained within a thin
strip of Manhattan, from 53rd to 42nd streets, between 6th
and 8th Aves, called the Great White Way. There are approximately
36 theaters crammed into this small area of the city, most
of which host world famous productions nightly.
Broadway
theater offers large scale productions with
professional actors and (sometimes) big stars. Tickets often
run in the $35 - $40 range, with orchestra seats costing
closer to $80 or $100.
Off-Broadway
theater offers a wider variety of styles and
subjects, showcasing work that mainstream Broadway is afraid
won't make the big bucks. Venues with 100-500 seats are
classified as Off-Broadway.
Off-Off
Broadway is very low budget and often extremely
creative theater. Venues with less than 100 seats are classified
as Off-Off Broadway.
